Eligibility
Arlington Scholars Program applicants:
• Must have only A’s & B’s for semester grades on their 8th grade report card;
• Provide a copy of the last report card to AHS;
• Submit a Statement of Intent signed by the student and parent;
• Provide three recommendation forms (two from current teachers and one from a non-relative community member);
• Submit a writing sample of 500-700 words based on a prompt given and supervised by teachers onsite;
• Sign up for an interview.
To remain in good standing as an Arlington Scholar, the following requirements must be met:
• Students will enroll in and complete a satisfactory number of Honors/AP/Dual Enrollment courses each year of high school;
• Semester grades must consist of A’s & B’s with no more than three C’s throughout high school;
• Students will earn a minimum of fourteen Honors/AP/Dual Enrollment/Dual Credit courses by graduation;
• Students will complete a minimum of 12 hours of community service;
• Regular school attendance with no more than 10 excused absences per year;
• Satisfactory conduct with no incidents of ISS, OSS, violation of the Honor Code, or discipline referral to the administration which will result in an ASP Board review for possible dismissal from program;
• Select, research in conjunction with a faculty mentor, write a research paper, and present a culminating Senior Project reflecting the student’s academic focus area, or a school or community need project, or other real-world application of critical analysis and enlightenment.
Participants in the Arlington Scholars Program who complete the program requirements and meet all of the ACT College Readiness Benchmarks will graduate with an honors diploma.
